BIO-RIDE – Riding India’s Future in Biotech

The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister- Shri Narendra Modi, approved the continuation of the two schemes of Department of Biotechnology (DBT), merged as one scheme-'Biotechnology Research Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development (Bio- RIDE)'.

Almost 9197 crores have been set as a budget for this initiative that is aimed at boosting the nation’s biotech landscape through research and entrepreneurship. It aims to accelerate research, enhance product development, and bridge the gap between academic research and industrial applications 


The Government is offering assistances like – seed funding, incubation support, mentorship and is highly focused on optimizing researches into real-world solutions. The scheme is designed with an ultimate goal of shaping India into a global biotech leader by heavily stressing on the upgradation of its fields like – synthetic biology, bio pharmaceuticals and bio-energy.


This program will emphasize the importance of sustainable bio-manufacturing to promote eco-friendly practices in the sector. The key focus will be on supporting scientific research through extramural funding. The initiative will provide vital resources to research institutions, universities, and individual researchers in fields such as agriculture, healthcare, bioenergy, and environmental sustainability, driving innovation across biotechnology.

Additionally, Bio-RIDE aims to nurture human resources in the biotechnology sector by offering comprehensive development programs for students, young researchers, and scientists. This initiative will contribute to skill-building and capacity development, ensuring the workforce is equipped to harness the potential of emerging technologies and advancements in biotechnology.
